LARRY ROCKNEBERG
Larry S. Rockneberg, 71, of Finley, ND passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown, ND after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Larry Sampson Rockneberg, “Rocky”, was born on May 8, 1950 in Sharon, ND to Melvin and Olga (Sampson) Rockneberg. He was baptized at Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church and attended Finley Public School. After school, Larry started working alongside his father on the family farm for many years raising crops and cattle, and in 1981 married Marilyn Ledbury.
Larry loved the outdoors, with two of his favorite hobbies being deer hunting and ice fishing. For several years later in his life, Larry would spend winters in the Minnewaukan, ND area to go ice fishing and spend time with his companion Sharon Coit. Larry then moved to Oakes, ND and worked for several area farmers and ranchers, before moving back to his childhood home in rural Finley. Larry then worked on the farm for his good friends, Larry and Dana Carlson, up until his passing.
Along with hunting and fishing, Larry was a talented wood craftsman, making many projects for his home and friends. He also spent much of his time tending to his garden, and was always generous to share his bounty with friends and neighbors. If he wasn’t outside, you could often find him at home watching his favorite “cowboy shows”. Although he didn’t have the most, Larry would always share his garden produce, pop, candy, or Bud Light bottles with his friends. Everyone who knew Larry will remember him as a friendly face, a warm-hearted individual, and as a genuine, loyal friend.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
Larry’s funeral will be at 2:00 pm at Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church, rural Finley, on Thursday, September 2. Interment will follow in the Sheyenne Valley Cemetery immediately following service, with fellowship to follow at the church.
Larry’s friends would like to send a sincere thank you to the staff of the Griggs County Care Center, the Sanford Mayville Hospital, the Roger Maris Cancer Center, and Hospice of the Red River Valley for taking such good care of our friend who we will miss so dearly. Memorials are asked for one of these organizations or the Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
