THAINE HANSON

Thaine Francis Hanson, 82, of Finley, ND, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Touchmark Assisted Living Facility in Bismarck, ND.

Thaine was born January 23, 1941, in Lisbon, ND, the son of Trygve and Frances (Mastrud) Hanson.  He attended school in Lisbon, ND, and in 1949, the family moved to a farm near Sharon, ND.  Thaine graduated from Sharon High School in 1959.

While serving in the Army, on February 3, 1962, Thaine married the love of his life, Dorothy Eline Hilstad.  They were inseparable and loved attending all events in the Finley area, especially dances.  Most recently, Thaine devotedly cared for Dorothy as she battled dementia.  Dorothy was the shining star of his life.

After serving in the Army, Thaine and Dorothy moved to Finley where Thaine worked at Finley Motors until 1977 when he joined Farmers Union Insurance.  After more than 30 years working for Farmers Union Insurance, he retired in 2011.  He deeply cherished the comradery and friendships that he made during his time selling insurance.

Thaine was very active in the Finley community.  He was a volunteer firefighter, worked with the community club, was a member of the Finley American Legion, delivered meals on wheels and was very involved in the Finley Lutheran Church.  He loved his vehicles, especially his 1974 Monte Carlo, rarely missing an opportunity to drive it in a parade.  He found great joy spending time doing yardwork and washing his vehicles, especially in the rain (free water).

Thaine is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their two children:  Teresa Hanson and Shane (Lana) Hanson.  He was devoted to, and deeply loved his five grandchildren:  Cassity (Kenyon) Wingenbach, Jacoby (Hannah) Lloyd, Noah Schaffner, Christian Hanson and Catherine Hanson, and his five great grandchildren:  Tatum Wingenbach, Penn Wingenbach, Theo Lloyd, Ames Lloyd and Coen Lloyd.  He is also survived by his brother, Steve (Carol) Hanson, and two sisters, Bev Devlin and Becky Amundson.

Thaine was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Helmer and Lillian Hilstad, his sister Faye Kilgore, nephew Ronald Thompson, and his brother-in-law Marlowe Hilstad.
