Remembering the life of….

Stanley “Sonny” J. Edland, 69, of Cooperstown, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Prince of Peace Care Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Sonny was born August 29, 1948, in Sharon, ND, the son of Stanley and Ione (Arndt) Edland. He was raised in Cooperstown, graduating from Cooperstown High School. He then joined the US Navy where he was stationed at China Lake Naval Air Station, CA and the Philippines. He served during the Vietnam War where he learned the mechanics of the plane’s jet engines.  He had the opportunity to fly on occasion in the F-16. This is where his love for planes started. This led to building model airplanes with his kids and watching the Blue Angels throughout his life. He later moved to Wyoming where he lived for 6 years while working in the oil fields before moving back to Cooperstown.

He enjoyed hunting around the “Arndt Farm” and fishing on Lake Ashtabula with family and friends. Sonny had a love for the outdoors which was passed on to his children. He loved to spend time with family and friends where he found pure joy. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

Left to share in the memory of Sonny, daughter: Natasha (Mike) Linnertz of Star Lake, MN; son: Brandy (Stephanie) Edland of Cooperstown, ND; brother: Lawerence (Eileen) Edland of Mandan, ND; brother: Gary (Rita) Edland of Medora, ND; Loving Companion: Sue Nelson.  Eight grandchildren and 4 nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Ione (Arndt) Edland and grandparents: Arthur and Ella Edland, Fred and Irene Arndt.

Visitation will be Monday, April 2, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 am with prayer service at 9:30 am and funeral to follow at 11:00 am at Quam-Plaistad-Cushman Funeral Home. Luncheon to follow at Coachman. Sonny will be laid to rest at Cooperstown Cemetery this spring.
