SHIRLEY M. VASFARET

Shirley M. Vasfaret, age 94, of West Fargo, formerly Cooperstown ND, passed away on January 28, 2025.

Shirley was born on September 7, 1930, daughter of Olaf (Ed) and Carrie Dahl in rural Binford, ND.  She graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1949 after which she married her high school sweetheart, Milo Vasfaret, August 1, 1951. Together they raised their five children Allen, Gaylin, Kyle, Shelley, and Chad.

Once her children were all school age Shirley drove the rural school bus for the next twenty-two years and was an assistant cook at the school until she retired at the age of 83. Shirley grew up on a farm west of Cooperstown where she developed a love for gardening. She had a reputation for growing an amazing amount of vegetables and flowers each year. She also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley was also a competitive bowler and in 2016 she was the ND senior bowling champion earning her a trip to Las Vegas. 

Shirley will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother and grandmother who always had an open door and a meal ready for anyone who stopped by.

Shirley is survived by four children, Gaylin of Fergus Falls, Kyle (Tammy) of Long Prairie, Shelley (Mike Sola) of West Fargo, and Chad of Fargo, her daughter in-law Lori Vasfaret of Clear Lake, her 11 grandchildren, Tom (Alicia) Vasfaret, Kristin (Johnathan) Quernemoen, Kellyjo (Josh) Smith, William (Kayleigh) Vasfaret, Brianna (Craig) Tchida, Kyler (Kimmy) Vasfaret, Ryder Vasfaret, Allen Sola, Tim (Londyn) Sola, Steve Sola, and Zachary Altrichter and her 18 great grandchildren and her sister in-law Blanche Moore.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milo, her parents, her siblings, her son Allen, and her grandson Brandon Sola.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. 

Shirley will be laid to rest at Ness cemetery in the spring.
