RICHARD TROSTAD

Richard Charles Trostad, age 86 years, of Cooperstown, ND, passed away on June 3, 2023.

Richard was born on May 2, 1937 to Ralph and Ethel (Koloen) Trostad at McVille, ND.  He was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church. He graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1955 and took over his dad’s farm that year. 

On April 19, 1958, he married his partner in life, Phyllis Hanson.  They have three children, Randy, Allison, and Mitchel.

Richard was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown. 

Richard took pride in his family, his crops, his garden and his woodworking.  He enjoyed gifting things he had made or grown, such as wooden spoons, furniture, jewelry boxes, toys, garden corn and tomatoes.  When the family gathered, loud and competitive pinochle games were required. 

He retired at age 65 years.  In 2016 Richard and Phyllis built a house in Cooperstown with the help of their family.  He could be seen often touring the town on his golf cart with Phyllis.  They spent many enjoyable hours with their friends at the Senior Center.  

Richard is survived by his spouse, Phyllis, his children, Randy (Debbie), Allison (Loran) Anderson and Mitchel (Naomi), grandchildren, Jeremy (Amber) Trostad, Cassondra (Travis) Schock, Graham (Kelsey) Anderson, Carter (Megan) Anderson, Bryce Trostad and Evan Trostad, great-grandchildren, Kenedy and Brinley Trostad, Brandi, Hunter, Mallori and Karli Schock, Sawyer and Blakely Anderson, Blair and Cam Anderson, his sisters, Bebe (Curtis) McCardle and Rhoda Lund, brothers-in-law, Orvin Hanson and Charles Gehrke, sister-in-law, Gretchen Hanson, aunt, Helen Bakken, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

We have faith that Richard was reunited in heaven on Saturday night with his parents, infant son, Paul, brothers-in-law, Harlan Lund and Roger Hanson, sisters-in-law, Marge Hanson and Helen Gehrke. 

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 13 at 2:00pm with visitation prior to the service beginning at noon.
