RICHARD (DICK) HOOK
Richard (Dick) Markus Hook passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 31, 2024.
Richard was born on August 31, 1938, in Valley City to Markus and Alma (Rasmussen) Hook and went on to graduate from Hannaford High School in 1956. On June 30, 1960, he married the love of his life, Carol Jean Hanson, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford. He remained by her side for 64 years.
In 1962, Richard went to work for North Dakota Highway Patrol Truck Regulatory and was stationed in Minot for 3 years. In 1965, Richard was transferred to Grand Forks, where he remained until his retirement in 2004. At that time, Richard and Carol moved to Cooperstown.
Richard was a proud father of two girls: Dawn and Robin. Throughout his rich life, Richard not only got to see his daughters grow up, but experienced being a grandfather and a great grandfather. In total, Richard had 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He always remembered to have fun with his kids and often spent afternoons playing kickball and frisbee with his daughters and various neighborhood children in Grand Forks.
Aside from his passion for Carol, his kids, and grandkids, Richard loved fishing and building furniture. It was said that he could fix almost anything, and he loved sharing that wisdom with his grandson Adam. He enjoyed UND hockey games, going to Pizza Ranch with Ryan and Jayden, and camping with Carol and Amber in the bus he converted to a camper.
Richard is survived by his wife Carol, children: Dawn (Matt) Langlie and Robin (Danny) Bakken, grandchildren: Amber Schelske, Randi (Nate) Johnson, Adam (Katie) Hutton, great grandchildren: Tayden Soma, Ryan Johnson, Jayden Johnson, Isaac Schelske, William Hutton, Grayson Hutton, and Lucy Hutton, brother/sister-in laws: David (Karol) Hook, Jerry (Kim) Hook, and Mickey Hook, Jerry Hanson, Mike (Irene) Hanson, Sharon (Jerry) Lende, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents (Markus and Alma), in-laws (Earl and Bette), sibling Marvin (Sharon) Hook, Nancy Hook, Sandy Hanson, grandson Mike Schelske, great grandson Jackson Hutton, and nieces Susie Hook and Lisa Hook.
A special thank you to Randi and Nate Johnson.
