NORMA LOUISE OLSON

Norma Louise Olson, 82, of Holbrook Arizona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2019. She was born in Walum, North Dakota to Edwin and Sylvia Everson on August 8, 1936.

Of fourteen sibilings, Norma was the eleventh child. Norma worked on the family farm, cheered all four years of high school, played basketball and she loved swimming, riding horses and caring for her younger siblings. She along with her sisters enjoyed racing horses for local horse owners.
Norma graduated from Dazey High School in 1954. She attended Valley City State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught for many years in North Dakota starting her career in Grace City, and later teaching in Sheyenne, Carson, and Lehr.

Norma moved to Arizona with her family in 1976 and began teaching in Wickenburg and later moved to Roll where she taught at Mohawk Valley School until her retirement after 30+ years of teaching. She loved teaching and cared deeply for the children, always willing to step in when a child needed an advocate.

She took pride in being an active member of her church and community and was always willing to volunteer whenever asked. Norma enjoyed participating in the Historical Society in Cooperstown, ND. She had great friends that she would enjoy pie and card games together.

Norma enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She would often travel to spend holidays, attend basketball games, Mexican Folklorico Dances and many more activities.

Norma is survived by her two children Everett (Melissa) Olson and Connie Edland Hanshew; Grandchildren, Betsy, Meghan, Ray (Katie), McKenzie, Alexis, Raelyn and Miles; Great Grandchildren, Alex, Michael, Amelia, Houston and Stella; Siblings, Marion Johnson, Lawrence Everson, Leonard (Bea) Everson, Edna Gunn, Carol (John) Thompson, Irene Grande and Jim (Jeanne) Everson; many nieces and nephews and a host of many good friends and colleagues.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Sylvia; her husband Gary Olson; Former husband Sonny Edland; sons James and Jonathan Edland; sisters Thelma and Virginia; brothers, John, Robert, Wallace, and Ralph.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at a later date in Wellton, Az. In lieu of gifts and flowers the family is asking that you make donations to your church or favorite community organization.
