Myron (Sully) Carl Kloster
December 4, 1933- December 5, 2023
Myron Carl Kloster, 90, from Sharon ND, passed away peacefully at his home on December 5, 2023. He was born in Sharon Township on December 4, 1933, the third child born to Marvin and Grace (Lageson) Kloster. He was given the nickname Sully at a young age, and he has gone by it ever since.
Sully attended school at Franklin No. 4 for two years then the rest of his school days in Sharon. He graduated in 1951. Go Knights! He attended North Dakota State College for one year and played on the freshman football team. He served in the United States Army and was a cook stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1954-56. For four winters, he was a ski bum in Colorado. That is where he met his sweetheart, Linda Sweetland, in Steamboat Springs, CO in the winter of 1971-72. They were married in Oak Creek, CO on July 9, 1972. He farmed on the family farm for many years with his dad, his brother, and his son.
Sully loved taking pictures and always had a camera with him. He has many photos from his travels around Germany while in the Army, his and Linda’s many train trips across the country, all his family, and all the grandkids' events. If anyone had a question about the history of Sharon and the surrounding area, Sully usually had the answer or could find the information in his office/museum. Sully’s love of ice cream was passed on to all his grandkids, he was known to get the ice cream out every night before bed when the grandkids were staying with them. Sully loved volunteering in Medora. He and Linda volunteered for 12 years there and took many other trips to watch the musical with the family.
Sully is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; two children, Sara (Jeff) Bjerke, and Mark (Emilie) Kloster; and 5 grandchildren - Sophie Kloster, Jack Bjerke, Marshall Kloster, John Bjerke, and Samuel Bjerke. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Betty Sweetland; brothers & sisters-in-law Karen Kloster, Judy Sweetland, Cindy and Steve Meade, Bill Holtman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sully was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Beverly Soma and Kathryn Nelson, his brother James Kloster; two brothers-in-law Jergen Soma and Ardean Nelson; his father-in-law Charles Sweetland; and sister-in-law Diana Holtman.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharon, ND. A Memorial Service will be Monday, December 11, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharon, ND burial will follow in the Trinity Cemetery, Sharon, ND, with military honors.
