MARY LOU UELAND
Mary Lou Ueland, long time resident of rural Cooperstown, passed away May 30, 2023 at St Raphael Care Center, Valley City, ND at the age of 92 years and 1 day. Funeral services will be held at Saron Evangelical Free Church, rural Cooperstown, Friday, June 16th at 2:00 PM with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Mary Lou Wuflestad was born May 29th, 1931 to Oswald and Ruth (Vigesaa) Wuflestad. Mary Lou grew up in the Cooperstown area attending country school and then graduating from Cooperstown High School. November 7th, 1952 Mary Lou married Mark Johnson and they made their home on the family farm.
Following Mark’s death in 2003 Mary Lou married Kermit Ueland. They lived on the family farm until they moved into the St. Raphael Care Center in October of 2018.
Mary Lou was very active in the Saron Evangelical Free Church for her entire life. Mary Lou could be found playing the piano at the church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, or singing solos with her beautiful soprano voice. At home, Mary Lou’s touch with plants and flowers were displayed in her beautiful flower beds, gardens, and immaculate lawns. One of her favorite duties was to sit on her John Deere mower and care for her yard. Mary Lou was a fantastic cook and prepared feasts for every meal, always with extras for unexpected company. Morning coffee often found friends and family stopping by for a cup and some homemade treats which were always in plentiful supply. But Mary Lou’s greatest joy was raising her 4 children and later in life, loving her many grandchildren. This was evidenced by never missing an event or program her kids were in and saving the programs for each of these as keepsakes.
We can take comfort that today she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as Mary Lou had a very strong faith and a personal relationship with Christ as shown in the life she lived.
Mary Lou is survived by her children Kristi Anderson, Valley City, ND, Kory (Ireta) Johnson, Benson, MN and Karen Johnson, Williston, ND; grandchildren Matthew Anderson, Paul Anderson, Weston (Megan) Anderson, Sophie Johnson, Ozzie Johnson, Bjorn Johnson, Ann (Mike) Fontaine, and Mark (Miranda) Johnson; 5 greatgrandchildren; sister Dorothy (Charles) Albright, sister-in-law Helen Wuflestad; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Ruth Wuflestad, first husband Mark, son Kurt, husband Kermit, brothers Monroe Wuflestad and Gene Wuflestad, and sister-in-law Vivian Wuflestad.
