MARJORIE HAZARD

December 1, 1926 — March 19, 2018

Marjorie Mae Steffen was born on December 1, 1926, the daughter of Erwin and Ruth (Messner) Steffen in a rural farmhouse southwest of Cooperstown, ND in Helena Township. 

As a young girl she attended rural grade school and continued her education at Hannaford High School, graduating in 1944.  Following that, she attended Valley City College, graduating with a teaching degree.  She began her teaching career at the Rural Michaelis School.  Later she continued teaching but moved to the Houghton School, which was located just west of Cooperstown about 3.5 miles.  After teaching for some time at that school, she met Bill Hazard and they were married on June 26, 1948.

Upon getting married, she discontinued teaching and became a farm wife.  As a farm wife she helped with the livestock including milking dairy cows.  She helped with some of the field work as well as truck driving to haul grain from the combine.  She was an avid gardener and liked to be in her yard.  In winter time, she spent lots of time working with her sewing machine and knitting.   She served as the Clerk for the rural school board for several years.  She was an active Homemakers member for many years.  She was also active with her Church Ladies group. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, brother, Roger, parents, Ruth, Erwin and her stepmother Lillian.

She is survived by her Son, Greg ( Mary Lou) Cooperstown, ND, her Daughter, Susan (Peter)Ringdahl, Colfax, NC, Granddaughters, Leanne Hazard, Dallas TX, Morgan Ringdahl, Fridley, MN, Mitchell Ringdahl, Colfax, NC, Sisters, Ruthie Linde, Eureka, CA, Kay Johnson, San Jose, CA and Connie Schultz, Love’s Park, IL.

Visitation will be from 5:00 till 7:00 with a Prayer service at 7:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2018 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND.  Visitation will be continue from 12:30 till 1:30 pm followed by a funeral at 1:30 pm, Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, ND.
