Margaret Fuglestad Gunderson
Margaret Fuglestad Gunderson, Hope, ND, died on October 15, 2020 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Margaret (Margarette) Marie was born to Theresa (Gehrens) and John Ihry on December 2, 1925 in Hope, ND.
She attended school in Hugo Township until 3rd grade . Her family moved to a farm near Luverne where she finished school. She taught one year in a one room school house.
She married Reynold Fuglestad on September 27, 1944. They farmed near Luverne and raised 12 children. Ray passed away on March 6, 1973. Margaret and her brother, Robert, started Bob’s Upholstery Shop, where she worked until retirement. Margaret and her 3 youngest children moved to Hope in 1977.
Margaret married Paul Gunderson on October 14, 1977. He died January 22, 1990. Margaret was a great baker, she loved sewing, crafting and especially thinking of 4-H projects for her grandchildren. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Margaret was active in the communities of Luverne and Hope where she was involved with Homemakers, 4-H leader, St. Agatha’s Catholic Church, Hope American Legion Auxillary, Eagles Auxillary, Hope Library and Young at Heart Senior Center.
Margaret is survived by her children; Susan (Harold) Bellon, Lloyd (Yvonne), Penny (Tom) Wells, Cary (Deb), Edsel, Leigh (Allen) Gunkel, Rita (Steve) Kainz, Joel (Roxy), Steven (Lori), Jamie (Mike) Fosdick, Jill (Roger) Moore, Amy Fuglestad; 37 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one infant son; and husbands, Ray and Paul; parents; siblings, Edna Jacobsen, Leo Ihry, Elmer Ihry, Marie Thomsen, Adolph Ihry, John Ihry, Kenneth Ihry , Robert Ihry and James Allen Ihry; and one great-grandson , Thomas Mullennax.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on August 14th, 2021. A Mass for Margaret will be held at 10:00 am at St. Agatha’s Catholic
Church, Hope, ND. It will be followed by a meal and a sharing of memories of Margaret at the Hope American Legion Hall.
