LELAND HERBERT HARVEY

Leland Herbert Harvey, 86, of Cooperstown, ND was born on October 1, 1937 on a farm south of Cooperstown, ND, the son of Lars and Hilda (Kalvik) Harvey.  He grew up and attended a local school house in that area.  Leland was inducted into the United States Army on February 5, 1958.  He served in Germany as an expert Heavy Weapons Infantryman until he was released to work the family farm while his father was gravely ill.  On October 15, 1960,  Leland married Virginia Ann Hendrickson from Larimore, ND.  Together they worked the farm and raised their two children Catherine Marie and David Lee.   He was currently residing with his companion of 13 years, Lucy Reinhart until the time of his passing at home on March 12, 2024.

Leland farmed most of his life plus he worked at Ed Reiten's, Melroe-Clark and Sheyenne Tooling & Manufacturing all in Cooperstown.  He also drove a school bus and was a member of the local school board for many years.  He was a member of Union Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND all of his life and served that local congregation in numerous ways. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, playing pinochle and spending time with all of his family and friends.

Leland is survived by his daughter Catherine and her husband Murdick McLeod from Tipton, IN.  Their daughter CaSandra McLeod & Beth Lorsbach, children James & Raja.  Another daughter Farren & Kyle Tilley, children Max & May.  Also a son Murdick & Maddi McLeod, children Grady, Brynn and Banks.   Leland is also survived by his son David and his wife Heidi from Forest Lake, MN.  Their son Benjamin & Brittney, children Hailey, Benjamin and Lucille.  A daughter Sydney Harvey.  Son Joshua, son Benjamin and daughter Hannah & husband  Andrew, with son AJ.   Eight cherished grandchildren and eleven treasured great-grandchildren in all.  He has one remaining sister in law Beatrice Harvey (Sidney) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Lars & Hilda Harvey, wife Virginia, passed in 2005; sister, Delores & Clifford Johnson, brothers; Kenneth & Esther Harvey, Leonard & Esther Harvey, and Sidney Harvey, and recently a niece Linda Becker (Jim's wife).

The whole family would like to express their gratitude for all of the kind cards, calls, meals, thoughts and prayers during this time.  We are grateful for the Christian heritage that we have and for all of the many wonderful people and friends that we love and hold dear in our hearts.  

Visitation will be Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10:00 till 11:00 am with a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the Union Lutheran Church rural Hannaford, ND.
