JOHN (JACK) GERMUNDSON
John “Jack” Morris Germundson was born to Obert and Alma (Scharske) Germundson on August 26, 1934, in Hope, N.D. He passed away on May 29, 2024 in the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.
He attended first grade in Colgate, N.D., before the family moved near Hope where he attended school. In his teen years, Jack worked for Doc Dekker from Finley. He enlisted in the Navy in 1955 and served on the USS Bon Homme Richard. On March 10, 1957, Jack married Joyce (Jacobsen) in Luverne, N.D., and after he was discharged, they made their home in Corvallis, Oregon. Jack worked for a time at Montgomery Wards, and then drove truck for Pepsi Co. While in Corvallis, Jack and Joyce had four children, Connie, John, Crystal, and Melody. They then moved to Sidney, Montana, where Jack worked in the oil fields for a short time. Jack and Joyce then moved their family back to Hope where Jack managed the Standard Oil Station and they had another child, Ron, during that time. In 1966 the family moved onto the Art and Lucille Jacobsen farm which they purchased and then added another child, Carmin. Jack and Joyce farmed until his retirement. Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. They lived in Mayville for 5 and a half years, spent a year in Cooperstown, and then resided in Hope. They were married for 67 years.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Obert and Alma Germundson; sisters Lois, Shirley and Phyllis; brothers Lyle and Gene; son, John; and son-in-law, Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, Hope, N.D.; daughter, Connie (Jim Mooney), Foley, MN; daughter, Crystal Nolan, Cooperstown, N.D.; daughter, Melody (Roger Ronningen), Binford, N.D.; son, Ron (Mary), Mayville, N.D.; daughter, Carmin (Jerry Wells), Erie, IL; sister, Carol, Rosemount, MN; brother, Warren “Bud” (Gerrie), Minot, N.D.; sister, Corrine “Nan,” New York Mills, MN; brother, Maynard (Karen), Wahpeton, N.D.; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hope, N.D. Interment was at Hope Cemetery.
