Janice Kay Ziegler, 63, passed peacefully with family by her side on November 4, 2021.
Janice Bakke was born March 12, 1958 to William (Billy) and Dorothy (Anderson) Bakke in Mayville, ND. She grew up on the family farm just south of Finley with her five brothers and one sister. Janice attended Finley-Sharon public school and graduated high school in 1976.
Janice married Robert Ziegler on July 23, 1980. From this union the twins, Joshua and Tasha, were born and she lovingly accepted his children into the family. Janice and Robert raised their children in Aneta, ND where she worked first as a daycare provider, a CNA at the Aneta Nursing Home, and as a valued employee at Cenex. When Janice’s parents passed, she and her husband moved to her family farm in 2001 just south of Finley. There she worked as a school cook and Postmaster Relief.
Janice enjoyed living at the farm where she had raised chickens and enjoyed taking care of her gardens and orchard. Janice was famous for her jams and jellies, baked goods, and her sense of humor. She always put everyone else first before herself. She cared deeply for her family and was proud of her twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After her husband of almost 40 years passed, she began to make and live her bucket list. She loved to visit over coffee with her brother Duane and sister-in-law Sherry every morning at 9 am. Janice loved being able to watch her great-grandchildren Kenzie and Atz and watching them grow. The last year she also enjoyed road-tripping with her special friend, Dave, whether it was just to the grocery store or to Valley City for Chinese. You could find her most Monday evenings at Bingo where she was lovingly called Eagle Eye. Janice loved fishing when she was more able and passed that love down to her children and grandchildren. She also passed her love for and skills of canning, baking, and cooking to her daughter. Janice could can anything you put before her or find recipes and make it her own, which usually made it better.
Janice was loved by many and will be truly missed. A hole is left in the hearts of many but the memories of her will be shared forever.
She is survived by her children Joshua Ziegler, Galesburg, ND, Tasha (Pete) Martin, Tappen, ND and Theresa (Andy) Mlocki, Parma, OH. Her siblings Duane (Sherry) Bakke, Finley, ND, David (Sharon) Bakke, Emerado, ND, Dennis (Joyce) Bakke, Cody, Wyoming, Susan Spicer, Aneta, ND. Her grandchildren, Maverick (Racheal) Ziegler, North Royalton, OH, Mitchell (Bree) Ziegler, Wahiawa, HI, Angelina Ziegler, Ravenna, OH, Jake & Jessica Mlocki, Parma, OH, Miranda (Alex) Reyes, Sharon, ND, Donaven and Daniel Martin, Tappen, ND, Jeramie and Justyn Ziegler, Des Moine, IA, Jake Volker, Herman, MN, Joey Ziegler-Westmoreland, Hatton, ND. She was proceeded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, Robert Ziegler, stepson Richard Ziegler, parents William and Dorothy Bakke, her Father and Mother-in-law Eugene and Florence Ziegler, her brothers Timothy and Blair.
