JAMES E. ROBERTSTON

James E. Robertson, 81, of Hope, ND, passed away peacefully Friday, January 10, 2025 in Sanford Hospital, Fargo. James was born August 15, 1943 to Raymond James and Inger (Hansen) Robertson of rural Hawley, MN. He grew up with 5 siblings on a family dairy farm. They all had help feed and milk the cows, but they had plenty of time to be busy farm kids. He attended and graduated Hawley High School in 1961. After graduation, he got his first full time job Hawley Creamery.

In July of 1964, he met the love his life, Ina Rugg of Hope, ND. In May 1965, he got drafted from the US Army for 2 years, where he did his service in Korea. James and Ina were married, on Sept 9. 1967. James and Ina first resided near Dilworth, MN. James worked at Wallworks Ford in Fargo, ND. In April 1975, they moved to Hope, ND to help with Rugg family farm. Jim took several roles in the Hope community as deputy of Hope police force, mechanic and bulk fuel driver for Cenex, as well as member of the Hope American Legion since 1975. In 1991, Jim started working for Top Taste in Finley, ND, where he was warehouse and truck driver until he retired in 2016. He then went on to be a “babysitter” for his grandchildren.

They were blessed with their 3 children, Orlys, Lea, and Earl, who blessed them with 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Jim was a great lover of the outdoors. He was handy and could turn anything he had on hand into a tool. His sense of humor was unwavering, as was his laugh. There was hardly a time he didn’t have a kid or animal in his lap. He love for his family was unshakeable.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, and his father and mother in laws, sister in laws, Lolly Robertson and Erlene Navarro, and brother in law Danny Navarro.

He is survived by his wife, Ina, of 57 years, Orlys Robertson (Fargo, ND), Lea (Robert) Blackburn (Langdon, ND), and Earl (Angela) Robertson (Hope, ND). Grandchildren Josh, Paige, Kassie, Katlyn, James, Jessica, Makayla, Thomas, Kylen, Hayston, Hazel and Erna. Great Grandchild Tyr. And siblings Charles (Carol) Robertson, Karen (Carl) Erickson, David (Karie) Robertson, Michael (Gayle) Robertson, and Joseph (Christy) Robertson. And life long friends Wayne (Tania) Haslerud. And several nieces and nephews, who he loved deeply.

The Celebration of Life Service is Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 1:30 pm, in the Hope American Legion Hall, Hope, ND. In lieu of money, please send a donation to either your favorite charity, Honor Flight, American Legion, or Salvation Army in remembrance of Jim.
