HELEN FAYE JOHNSON

Helen Faye Johnson, 90, died April 25, 2023, at her home in Cooperstown. She and her twin sister were born in Keighley, Kansas, September 11, 1932, to Otis & Gladys (Wilcox) Poe. Her early years were spent in Missouri and Kansas and the family moved to California in 1945. Helen graduated from Jefferson Union High School in Daly City, CA and then attended Modesto Junior College before she and her twin sister enlisted in the Air Force in April of 1954. Helen met Roland Johnson of Hannaford, ND, while both were stationed at Scott AF Base in Belleville, IL. They were married in Hannaford on May 26, 1956 and lived on a farm southeast of Hannaford. Here they raised their family. When the kids were older, she worked at several different jobs in Hannaford, while also selling Avon, Tupperware and Princess House through the years.

In January 2000, she moved to Cooperstown where she lived until her death. She worked at various jobs in Cooperstown finishing as a representative for the Experience Works program, helping other seniors find jobs. She retired April 2011.

Helen loved to travel, bowl, read, make jigsaw puzzles, play games and she was addicted to Jeopardy. She believed strongly in family and she enjoyed any time she could spend with her family and friends. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and the WELCA, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion.

Helen is survived by her four children: Connie (Calvin) Eslinger, Hannaford; Dean Johnson, Cooperstown; Gail Joramo, St. Cloud, MN; and Gwen West, Buckeye, AZ; five grandchildren: Justin, Kody  & Davis Eslinger, Joshua (Hannah) Eslinger, and Emily (Jason) Bivens; 5 great-grandchildren: Amelia & Violet Eslinger and Abigail, Jude & Eleanor Bivens; one sister, Linda Carter, MT; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; sisters Bonnie, Amy & Ellen; brothers William, Robert & Dannie; and sons-in-law Norman West and Steven Joramo.

Visitation will be Friday, May 12, 2023 from 12:30 till 2:00 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm in the Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND.  Interment will be in the Faith Cemetery, Hannaford, ND.
