HAROLD FETTING

Harold Fetting, 85, Finley, ND died December 28, 2022 in Mesa, AZ.

Harold was born February 22, 1937 in Ada, MN to Melvin and Lillian (Brager) Fetting.  He graduated from Borup High School in 1955. 

In high school he often joked that he had to swim the Red River to find his beautiful bride, Janice Johnson.  They married March 15, 1958 and lived on the family farm in Borup MN.

In 1960 he moved to Finley, ND, purchased a bakery, and in 1972 trademarked Top Taste Inc. and Fetting’s Frozen Dough Products.

In 1981, he was named ND Baker’s Association Baker of the Year and was often developing new frozen dough products.

Harold and Janice owned and worked at the bakery until retiring in 2003.

Harold loved living in Finley and was an active community member. He helped develop the Pride of Dakota organization, was one of the founders of the Finley Endowment Fund, was instrumental in forming Finley Dollars for Scholars and was a member of many clubs and organizations in Finley and Steele County.

Harold worked hard while watching his children grow then eventually welcoming his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, travel, and finally retirement.

Harold and Janice spent many winters with family and friends at The Eagles Nest in Marco Island Florida and then La Casa Blanca in Apache Junction Arizona until their return to Golden Lake near Hatton, North Dakota for the summers. Harold loved entertaining family, friends and neighbors with playing cards, being on the lake, flipping pancakes for catching and telling stories.

Harold is survived by his wife Janice of 64 years, and children Wayne (Laurie) Fetting, Susan (Scott, deceased) Sayer, Charlene (Kevin) Blumhart, Lori (Arlin, deceased) Fetting. Sisters Lois Carlsrud (Mervin, deceased) & Marilyn Williams (Gary, deceased), 19 Grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin & Lillian Fetting, brothers Robert and Roger (Kaye) Fetting.

Visitation will be Thursday June 15, 2023 from 4 – 6 PM followed by a Prayer service at 6 PM. Friday June 16, 2023^, a Memorial service at 10:30 AM, visitation 1 hour prior to service.  All services held at Finely Lutheran Church, Finley North Dakota.  Burial at Finley Cemetery following the service.  In lieu of flower, please make donations to Finley Endowment Fund or Finley Cemetery.
