GARY C. NELSON

Gary C. Nelson, Luverne/Cooperstown, ND passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024 at SMP Health/ St. Raphel in Valley City, ND.

Gary Conrad Nelson was born on November 28, 1952 to Henry and Constance (Johnson) Nelson in Moorhead, MN. He graduated in 1971 from Luverne, ND and State School of Science, Wapheton in 1972. He was drafted into the US Army, stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.

He married Sherry (Stokkeland) on July 12, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown, always living in the Luverne area, together they farmed and raised their two children until last year when they moved to Cooperstown.

He farmed in Luverne area, first working for neighbors and began his own operation in 1975 along side his parents. He enjoyed cars (MOPAR), snowmobiles, motorcycles, fishing, cooking –“some called him the Meat Man,” and doing things with his family, especially, his kids and grandboys, who he was very proud of. He had many close and special friends. Sherry liked to call him her “Entertainer.” He was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and then again in 2023.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sherry, daughter Nancy (Brandon) Mueller- sons Brandt and Brody; son Matthew- sons Gavin & Drake, and Natalie. Brothers Steve and Tim (Betsy); sister Connie; In- Laws Arlene (Mel) Pantzlaff, Carolyn (Ben ) Dekker, Lyle (Lila) Stokkeland, Cindy Wall, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Constance (Petey), Arnold and Orpha Stokkeland, brothers in law, Jerry Stokkeland, Lennis Stokkeland, Tom Wall, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family expresses their thanks to Cooperstown Ambulance, The DRMC in Cooperstown, Sanford Medical Center, Roger Maris Cancer Center, Mayo in Rochester, Hospice of the RRV, SMP Health/ St Raphael in Valley City, VA Fargo, Hope Legion, and everyone who has sent so many prayers, hugs, and love.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm in Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND, visitation will be one hour before. Interment will be in the Luverne Cemetery, in the spring.
