Bruce D. Mitzel
Bruce Mitzel, 61, Eagle, ID, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, in Hope, ND.
Bruce Douglas Mitzel was born September 19, 1961, in Mayville, ND to Balzer & Marcia (Bergstrom) Mitzel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Redeemer Lutheran Church. While young, Bruce enjoyed many memorable fishing trips to Canada with his Grandpa Oliver, especially to Plaisted’s Fish Camp, and was an avid horseman participating in horse shows around the region. Bruce attended school in Hope as a proud Hope Hustler. He valued his time as a center for the football team. Bruce was a graduate of Hope High School and NDSU.
Bruce married his high school sweetheart Teresa Jacobsen on November 23rd, 1990 at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Hope. They both were adventurous and moved to California where they lived in Ventura and Hollister. They raised their two children Jordan and Taylor in Hollister for 18 years until moving to Eagle, ID in 2010. Bruce’s career consisted of ABC Auto Glass in Hollister and farming. He had a passion for farming and raising animals (especially cows and horses) which he did in ND, CA, and ID. He grew hay crops in CA, potatoes in ID, as well as soybeans and corn in ND. Hunting and fishing are where he found his greatest joy, and sharing his love for the outdoors with his family. He made many trips to Alaska to hunt, fish, and enjoy the wilderness. He found fulfillment in farming with his family, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Most of all he had tremendous joy in preparing to be a grandpa for the first time in February.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 32 years, Teresa; children, Jordan (Brogan and her son Treyson) of Nampa, ID, Taylor of Eagle, ID; mother, Marcia Mitzel of Hope, ND; father-in-law, Leroy Jacobsen of Hope, ND; siblings, Kara Fischer of Davenport, IA, Scott (DeDe) Mitzel of Luverne, ND; bother-in-law, Tab (Heather) Jacobsen of Hope, ND, and nieces and nephews; Amelia Fischer, Bailey Pfeifer, & Bo Jacobsen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Balzer Mitzel, mother-in-law Bertha Jacobsen, brother-in-law John Fischer, and nephew Brady Jacobsen. Bruce was often there to help family or friends in need. He was quite the handyman and jumped in whenever he could to lend a hand. Bruce will be remembered for his no-fear attitude and adventurous spirit. He will be dearly missed. Farewell to our fearless outdoorsman.
