BETTY DRONEN

Betty Jane Dronen, 89, long-time resident of Sharon, N.D. and recently of Fargo, N.D., passed away at Sanford Hospital on September 7, 2021.

Betty was born April 25, 1932 to Henry and Mary Vareberg in Steele County. Betty attended school in Finley, ND. She married Melphord Dronen on November 4, 1950. They raised five children on their farm near Sharon, ND. 

Betty was a fierce workhorse her entire life. As a young woman she worked in the Sharon Hospital. She worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Aneta and the Community Center in Sharon. For over 30 years, Betty was also a devoted secretary for Sharon’s Trinity Lutheran Church.

All of Betty’s cooking was phenomenal, but she was regionally renowned for her lefse. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, playing cards, and embroidering. Betty’s quick, dry wit and contagious laughter were an incredible delight to her family and friends. 

Betty faced many tragedies in her life, and always met them with grace. She survived four of her five children, but never lamented her lot in life. Betty was generous with her kindness and compassion. 

She is survived by her brother Sherwood (Linda) Vareberg, son Allen Dronen, her grandchildren Jeff Greenley, Stephanie Hegland, Amy Boushey, Candi Wills, Mandie Stautz, Lacey Gemlo, Rachel Dronen, Joshua Dronen, Ben Dronen, Laura Dronen, and Lee Halvorson, and many great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sister Ethel, brother Sanford, her children Michael Dronen, Wanda Greenley, Robert Dronen, and Kimberly Halvorson, and her granddaughter Heather Estrada.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 1:00 till 2:00 pm in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharon, ND followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm.  Interment will be in the Trinity Cemetery, rural Sharon, ND.
