ARTHUR ESLINGER
Arthur (Art) Eslinger, 96, of Cooperstown, passed away June 21st, 2021 in Valley City, ND where he was in the care of hospice at Sheyenne Valley Care Center.
Art was born on November 13th, 1924. The fourth of eleven children to David and Lydia (Hofer) Eslinger in Garrison, North Dakota. Art lived on a farm near Coleharbor, ND and attended school through 8th grade. When the farmstead became flooded during the construction of the Garrison Dam Project, the family moved to Akeley, MN in 1938, where they ran a theater. The family purchased a farm west of Hannaford, ND in 1942.
Art served in the US Army from March 1946, where he was stationed in Korea, through April 1947 when he was honorably discharged. He worked on the farm and building-moving business the Eslinger’s had. Art later worked in Minneapolis, MN and Milwaukee, WI.
He married Irene (Himmerich) on March 29th, 1952 in East Troy, WI. They lived in Wisconsin for a year and in 1953 they bought a farm six miles west of Hannaford. Art and Irene had 9 children. He farmed and raised dairy cows until retiring in 1986. Irene passed away in August of 1991. Art continued to live on the farm until moving to Cooperstown in 1999 having met a special friend, Anita Anundson. Art and Anita enjoyed many years together traveling and spending time with family and friends. Anita passed away in February 2015.
Art was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford, Senior Citizens in Hannaford and Cooperstown where he enjoyed socializing with many friends. He was an avid bird and people watcher. He was passionate about boxing and visiting with family and friends.
Art is survived by his children; Bruce (Angela Chen) Eslinger, San Jose, CA; Karen Stensrud, Billings, MT; Donna (Mike) Spivey, San Jose, CA; Myron (Debra) Eslinger, Cooperstown, ND; Garry (Francis) Eslinger, Pagosa Springs, CO; Randy Eslinger, Hannaford, ND; Elaine (Lannes) Edlund, Binford, ND; Greg (Christy Fliflet) Eslinger, Hannaford, ND; six grandchildren, Michael (Kristi) Eslinger, Tyler (Marshele) Edlund, Phillip (Tiffany) Eslinger, Kelsey (Justin) Kuster, Jamie (Kevin Nagel) Stensrud, Jaclyn (Casey) Hardon; 13 great-grandchildren, Audrey and Lauren Eslinger, Leah, Heath and Tripp Edlund, Easton, Beckett and Harper Eslinger, Kelby, Witten, Beau Kuster, Rayvin Fisher and Charlie Mulluk; siblings, Albert Eslinger, Lorraine Burgum, Bernhart Eslinger, and Elmer (Marcia) Eslinger; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Edwin Himmerich; and sisters-in-law, Delila Everson and Nadine Eslinger.
Art is preceded in death by his parents, David and Lydia Eslinger; his wife, Irene, infant daughter, Elaine; siblings; Emil Eslinger, Reuben Eslinger, Hilda Palm, Leona Severson, Lloyd Eslinger, and Alvin Eslinger; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will continue Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 9:30 till 10:30 am in Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Faith Cemetery with full Military Honors.
