ARDA JACOBSEN

Arda Marie Jacobsen passed away Oct 2, 2019 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayvlle, ND.  A Memorial Service will be held at Luverne Lutheran Church, Luverne, ND on Monday October 7, 2019 at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM. 

Arda was born Nov. 7, 1929 in Dale Township, Burke County, ND. to Alvie and Gilma Strathe.  The family moved to Hope, ND. where she graduated high school and she taught at a one room school in Broadlawn Township, east of Hope, one year, 1947 to 1948. 

Arda married Robert Jacobsen on Oct. 8, 1948, and they farmed near Luverne, ND. and there they raised a family. 

Arda was a member of Luverne Lutheran Church, was active in church activities, such as Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School. Bible Study and singing in the ladies quartet. She was active in the Steele County Historical Society and helped write the Steele Co. History Book.  She was a part of the American Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, Homemaker's Club, and served as township clerk/treasurer many years. 

Some of her fondest memories are her loving parents and close relatives, holding her babies, getting daughters in law, pride in her sons, holding her grandchildren, and family reunions. One of the highlights of the mid-1970's was when she and Robert won a trip to Europe and she got to meet some of her relatives in Harstad, Norway, with whom she kept in contact with for many years and shared many common interests. 

She enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, trying new crafts, making dried flower greeting cards, and word puzzles. In later years, she enjoyed bird watching from her easy chair in front of the big picture window, once had the thrill of holding a hummingbird in her hand.  She made many of the decorations for the farm house at Luverne.  Arda wasn't afraid to try new things, she got a computer so she could keep in contact with her family via email, and used it to write her autobiography, "Memories and Journeys". 

Arda is survived by 5 sons and spouses; Ried and Kathy (Newton) of Downers Grove, Ill, Lyle and Teri (Coiner) of Dayton VA, Jerome of Grand Prairie, TX,, Roy and Paula (Feickert) of Fargo, ND, and Larry of Luverne, ND.; 10 grandchildren, Patricia, Jennifer, Nicholas, Benjamin, Sarah, Matthew, Nathaniel, Abigail, Karen, and Eric; and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband Robert, daughter Ann, her parents, Alvie and Gilma Strathe, brother Orlin Strathe, sisters in law, Donna (Germundson) Strathe and Luella (Jacobsen) Strathe.
