RONALD CHAPMAN

December 31, 1944 — July 25, 2016

RONALD “RON” CHAPMAN Ronald “Ron” Chapman, 71, Brother, Uncle and very special Friend lost the battle of months of poor health to respiratory failure on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Fairview Lake Region Medical Center, Wyoming, MN. He was born on December 31, 1944 in Cooperstown, ND, son of Ralph & Violet (Hoggarth) Chapman. He went to school in Cooperstown till 1960 when he went out on his own working for a local farmer, the missile outfit and local REA with his brother-in-law Maynard Zentz. He was inducted in us Army on October 4, 1965. Of the 4 young men from this area that went to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for basic training, Ron was the only one sent to Vietnam (for 1 year & 14 days). He was awarded the Sharp Shooter award,, Bronze Star & DVR badge for his time in the service. After his discharge from the army, Ron settle down in Minnesota around the Minneapolis area for the last 50+ years, starting out sand blasting and then with trucking companies traveling cross country to 40 states & Canada. His last job was out of Apple Valley hauling product locally, He was either driving or working on trucks no matter the weather or time of year. He was proud of his Dodge Ram pickup truck & liked to show it off. Ron rarely came back to ND He enjoyed outdoor activities which included deer hunting, taking his pontoon out on the lake near Avon, MN, and playing with his dog. He wasn’t successful at marriage as both ended in divorce. He married Henrietta Seagard Sept. 23, 1972 and Patricia Sherry on May 27, 1988. He now had a very special friend, Cindy Glovka. He never had any children, his family was his dogs. His German Shepard, “Bear” was often seen with him. He had a quick wit, a smile & enjoyed teasing the nurses in these last few months, to “brighten up their day”. When asked what he thought his greatest accomplishments were, his answer was that he had quit drinking in 1975 and smoking in 2016. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Sandi) Chapman, nieces and nephews, Vicki (Tim) Heckelsmiller, Ricky Zentz, Nicki (David) Kvislen, Mickey (Jamie) Zentz, Dickie (Lizy) Zentz, Aaron (Mellisa) Chapman, Nicolas (Destiny) Chapman, Robyn (Jason) Ekern and very special friend, Cindy Glovka. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph ( Millie)Chapman, his mother Violet Chapman and sister, Dorothy (Maynard) Zentz. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:30 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND. Interment will be in the Ottawa Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aneta, ND.
