DONALD E. KIRKEBY

August 10, 1932 — November 14, 2015

Donald E. Kirkeby, 83, Hannaford ND and formerly Cooperstown, ND was born August 10, 1932 in Valley City, ND, the son of Irvin and Hazel (Reid) Kirkeby. He passed away at the Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND, also under the care of Hospice, on November 14, 2015. Donald grew up in Cooperstown, ND and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army in Okinawa, Japan from 1952 to 1954. Upon honorable discharge he returned to Cooperstown and worked for the Ford Garage. On October 11, 1958 he married Beverly Anton. The couple made their home in Cooperstown. They owned and operated Don’s Sales and Service for over 23 years selling and fixing bicycles. Don loved antiques, guns, tools and fishing tackle. He enjoyed going to auction and rummage sales or second-hand stores to find bargains. In 1990 the couple retired and moved to Hannaford, ND. One special thing Don will be remembered for are his chocolate covered treats. He shelled and individually-dipped peanuts, pretzels and raisins for his family and special friends. It gave him great pleasure to know they were enjoyed by all! Don is survived by his daughter, Lois (Kyle) Bednar, Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Erin Bednar, Fargo, ND; grandson, Michael (Nicole) Bednar, Sabin, MN and great-granddaughter, Avery. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Beverly. Funeral services will be Friday November 20, 2015 at 10:30 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, ND.
