FLORENCE JONASON Florence Jonason, 102, Hope, ND, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 in the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Florence Dyson was born on July 14, 1912, in Cooperstown, N.D, the daughter of Glenn and May (Johnston) Dyson. She graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1931. She married Lloyd Howden in Cooperstown. They had two children, Sally and Glenn Lee. Lloyd died in 1944. Florence worked in the Rexall Store in Cooperstown until marrying Ole Jonason in 1948. They moved to Hope, N.D., where they owned Jonason Motors and Ole was mayor of Hope for several years. They had two boys, Reed and Larry. Ole died in 1982. Florence was an active member of the United Church of Hope, The Eastern Star and Past Matron, American Legion Auxiliary, Hope Library Board, Senior Citizens, Homemakers Club, Hope Park and Golf Course. She served on the Hope School Board for 17 years. She worked at several jobs, including as bookkeeper at Jonason Motors and the Hope Elevator. She was city auditor for 13 years, edited the “Hope Shopper” and also worked at the Hope Creamery for a time. After retiring in 1981, she kept busy with her flower garden, oil painting and playing cards with friends. She had an art show at the Steele County Museum at age 99. Florence Jonason was the grand marshal of the Hope Days parade on July 14, 2012, which seemed appropriate as she was celebrating her 100th birthday. She became a resident of the Luther Memorial in August of 2012. Florence is survived by her daughter, Sally (Homer) Wennerstrom, Hope, ND; sons, Glenn Lee, The Dalles, OR, Reed (Lorray), Detroit Lakes, MN and Larry (Kathy) Mead, CO; grandchildren, Keith Wennerstrom, Jill (Robin) Lipetzky, Jim (Kinsey) Wennerstrom, Brent (Karla) Wennerstrom, Princess Leaf Cunneen, Joshua (Staci) Jonason, Jodi (Phil) Schafer, Amy (Mike) Burchett, Matt (Kristie) Jonason; great-grandchildren, Monica Brekhus, Michael Lipetzky, Ryan Lipetzky, Hannah, Eric and Georgia Wennerstrom, Amelia and Charlie Wennerstrom, Jois and Hope Cunneen, Brodie and Lachlyn Jonason, Zander, Zaden, Zuri and Zoey Schafer, Tyler, Tatum and Sydney Burchett, Payton and Madison Jonason and great-great-grandchildren Healey and Korina Brekhus. Services will be for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hope, N.D. Visitation will be one hour before services in the Church. Interment will be at the Hope Cemetery. Memorials are directed to Hospice of the Red River and Luther Memorial Home.
