BERTHA A. JACOBSEN Bertha Jacobsen, 70, Hope, ND, passed away on Thursday, December 11th, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, after a very strong battle with cancer. Bertha Agnes Kainz was born August 25, 1944 in Northwood, to Bill & Wilma (Zutter) Kainz. She attended school in Hope. Bertha married Leroy Allen Jacobsen on July 27th, 1963 at St. Agatha’s Church in Hope, which was the church that her dad built. Bertha’s career involved the Johnson Store in Hope, Hope Locker Plant, Jacobsen Oil, and most importantly her Gift Shoppe and Greenhouse of Flowers. The flower sales are where she found her biggest reward; helping fellow gardeners to choose beautiful flowers to adorn their gardens. There could never be enough color! She found fulfillment in decorating the garden and everything that she could get her hands on. Bert also had a flare for feeding the hungry (she thought everyone was hungry). Keeping family together with family functions was always a priority. The two-step and jitterbug occupied a lot of leisure time for Leroy & Bert along with many of their friends. They could really float across that dance floor! Bertha is survived by her Husband of 51 years, Leroy; Children, Teresa (Bruce) Mitzel of Eagle, ID, Tab (Heather) Jacobsen of Hope; Grandchildren, Brady Jacobsen of Davenport, FL, Jordan Mitzel of Eagle, ID, Taylor Mitzel of Eagle, ID, Bailey Mortensen of Hope, and Bo Jacobsen of Hope; Siblings, Betty (Jim) Ewing of Fargo, Ed Kainz of Hope, Marlys (Jim) Jacobson of Finley, Mike (Nancy) Kainz of Hope, and Patricia (Larry) Satrom of West Fargo; Sister-in-laws, Janet Kainz of Page, Fay Kainz of Weaver , AL, Renee (Jack) Dale of Colorado Springs, CO, Debra (Marlin) Kroeplin of Hope; and Brother-in-law Jim Ihry of Detroit Lakes, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents Bill & Wilma Kainz, and Siblings, Bonnie Skinner, Bob Kainz, and Clarence Kainz. Bert was an extraordinary wife, nurturing mother, sister, in-law & aunt. She maintained strong friendships throughout her years. She could find goodness in all situations and people. She will be remembered for her gentle soul & caring nature and how she showed kindness to everyone she met. Bert was always very family focused and supported them in every way. She will be dearly missed. Farewell to our biggest fan!!! Funeral services will be Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Hope, ND.
