William Walter Hazard passed away peacefully in the Cooperstown Medical Center on Sunday, September 14, 2014 after a lengthy time of heart problems. He was born on May 5, 1923 the son of James Franklin Hazard and Cora Hazard (Houghton) on the family farm west of Cooperstown. As he grew up he attended rural school for grade school and graduated from Cooperstown High School. During those years he did lots of work on the farm. William married Marjorie Steffen on June 26, 1948. They settled on a farm nearby which William established and continued to grow and enhance as years went by. William enjoyed raising and caring for livestock as well as all the other farming. He served as Treasurer for Cooperstown Township for 56 years. He served as Director on the Farmers Elevator Company Board of Cooperstown for many years. He held the position of Secretary of the board for all those years. William also served as Director for Griggs Co. Farm Bureau for some years. He served on the board and different committees of the Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Edwin, Bruce, and James Jr., sister-in-law Marilyn, two brothers-in-law: Richard Schwappach and Phillip Rundle. William is survived by his wife Marjorie of 66 years, son Greg (Mary Lou) Cooperstown, ND, daughter Susan (Peter) Ringdahl, Colfax, NC, three grandchildren Leanne (a very special friend Chris Sims) Benton, AK, Morgan (a very special friend Adam Fisher) and Mitchell all of Minneapolis, MN, three sisters Ardis Rundle, Lacrosse WI, Joanne Schwappach, Bismarck, ND, and Marjorie (Clifford) Ashland, Seal Beach, CA. He was deeply loved and will be missed greatly. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:30 am in the First Presbyterian Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be Friday, September, 19, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Friday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
