MARILYN HAZARD Marilyn Isabelle Simpson Hazard passed away June 21, 2014 in the Griggs County Care Center. She was born May 27, 1928 at their farm west of Sharon, North Dakota to James George and Alice Ovidea (Gudmonson) Simpson. She was baptized March 23, 1930 in the Presbyterian Church of Sharon, North Dakota. Marilyn graduated from high school in Sharon in May, 1946. She attended summer school at Mayville State Teacher’s College and taught in a country school in Westfield Township in Steele County. She married Bruce Hazard in the Presbyterian Church of Sharon, on June 20, 1949. They farmed in Cooperstown Township. She worked in Maxine’s Dress Shop and they managed a coffee bar in Cooperstown. Bruce died in 1997. Marilyn was very active in the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, and the Presbytery of the Northern Plains. She was also active in Homemakers, PTA, Farm Bureau, Republican Ladies, square dance club, garden club, and the Griggs County historical society. Marilyn enjoyed, Genealogy, Oil and watercolor painting, Bible Studies, both as leader and participant, gardening, flower-arranging, knitting, sewing, reading, playing cards, and cake decorating. In the last months of her life she authored a book and learned how to use a computer to word-process it. She was preceded in death: Parents, Husband, one Son, Ricky, one brother, Roger Simpson, two brothers-in-law, James and Edwin Hazard. Marilyn is survived by; her daughter, Vickie (Marvin) Goplen; Son, Bruce (Laurie) Hazard; grandchildren, Emily (Eric) Parsons, Eric (Mike Schweitzer) Iverson, Nicholas (Mikaela Forward) and Nathan Hazard; Penny Goplen and Steven (Melaney Weinkauf) Goplen; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Simpson; one brother-in-law, William (Marjorie) Hazard; and 3 sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Clifford) Ashland, Joanne Schwappach, and Ardys Rundel. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, ND.
