ROLAND HOVDE Roland D Hovde, 79, Cooperstown, ND, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Roland D. Hovde (Hjalmer) was born March 3, 1935 to parents Oscar and Ragna (Field) Hovde in Melvin Township near Kloten ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Melvin Township. Roland served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961, primarily in Cleveland, OH. Roland married JoAnn Hayden in McVille ND on April 3, 1959. After which JoAnn joined him in Cleveland, OH. When discharged, they returned to ND residing in Aneta, Devils Lake and Cooperstown, where they remained and raised their family of six children. In Cooperstown, he worked at Reitens, Melroe and Orris’ 66 Service. He also was employed at B & S Trucking at Sharon, ND before moving on to Alaska to work in the oil and logging industries as a mechanic and machinist, from 1981-2002. He returned to Cooperstown and was employed with Mikkelson Farms at Sharon, then later took a position with Right-A-Way Applicators. Roland had an interest in steam threshing, old cars and restoring old tractors. His pastimes included reading, going for a drive in the country and visiting friends. His friends and family had an appreciation for his sense of humor, keen wit and occasional pranks. Roland is survived by his wife, JoAnn, two daughters; Joni (Mitchell) Ham, Aneta, Jeanne (Peter) Kelley, Walker, MN , four sons; Randy (Pam), Wahpeton, Rodney (Jennifer), West Fargo, Ryan, Cooperstown and Robin, West Fargo. Also surviving are brother; Rudy, Aneta, sisters; Alice Stigen and Linda (Ervin) Kiefat, both of Coon Rapids, MN, Ileen Kiefat, Cottage Grove, MN, and Darlene Kragtorp, Hopkins, MN. Surviving grandchildren are Ashley, Alex and Andrew Hovde, Jordan and Kaitlyn Hovde and Nathan and Kristina Kelley, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter, Julie Rae, brothers; Kermit, Irvin and Dennis; sisters Bertha Johnson and Evelyn Johnson and parents Oscar and Ragna Hovde. A Memorial Service will be held, Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND. A Prayer Service will be Sunday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Interment will be, Monday at 1:30 pm in the McVille Cemetery, McVille, ND.
