HELEN GERALDINE JACOBSON Our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen Geraldine Jacobson, 95 of Hope, ND passed away May 26th in Becker, MN at the home of her son Harlan Jacobson and Susan Dunbar where she had been under their care since October 2013. Geraldine was born September 16, 1918 at her parent’s home located in Griggs County near Aneta, ND. She was the first born to Halvor and Gudrun (Amundson) Halvorson who had migrated from Norway. She attended country school near Sharon, ND and later Newbergan #3 near Finley until the 8th grade. She graduated from Finley High School, Finley, ND and attended Mayville State College majoring in education. She married Andrew J. Jacobson, March 23, 1938 in Finley, ND. His parents were Severt and Ellen Jacobson. They moved to Hope, ND in February of 1939 where Andrew opened up Andy’s Machine Shop. Geraldine and Andrew had four children, Dr. Severt (Anneliese) Jacobson, Pinehurst, ND, Harlan (Susan) Jacobson, Becker, MN, Darrell (deceased) (Elizabeth) Jacobson, Loves Park, IL, Sonia (Allen) Sjurseth, Pelican Rapids, MN. Andrew passed away January 7, 1961. Geraldine was a caretaker for her mother, father and grandfather until they passed away. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hope School Band mother, PTA, Happy Homemakers Club and LWML. She worked at the Johnson Store in Hope which later became Mic’s Grocery for 22 years. In retirement, Geraldine continued to live in her home in Hope. At family gatherings, her homemade buns and lefsa were usually requested. She loved to work in her garden, making quilts and was a devoted mother and grandmother. Many times she said, her children were the greatest joy in her life. For many years, she enjoyed the friendship of George Dorothy who passed away in 2004. Together they traveled to see family and other sights. Her greatest trip was to Norway in 1990 were she visited 78 relatives in Haugesund, Bergan and Oslo. Geraldine is survived by 3 of her children, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew, son, Darrell, sister Burnette Halvorson and brother, John Halvorson. Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:30 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hope, ND. Visitation will be will be Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Church and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Church. Interment will be in the Hope Cemetery. The family has requested that memorials to be given to Hospice of St. Cloud or Trinity Lutheran Church of Hope, ND.
