MILDRED L. KIRKEBY

MILDRED L. KIRKEBY Mildred Lenore Kirkeby, 95, Cooperstown, ND was born November 22nd, 1917 in rural Sutton, ND, the daughter of Alfred and Alice (Posey) Erlandson. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Sutton, ND. Mildred attended Sutton grade school and 3 years of high school and finished her senior graduating year in Courtney, ND. Mildred married Vernon Kirkeby December 21st, 1935 in Jamestown, ND. After living in Hope, ND part of their early married life the couple then made the next 19 years home in Cooperstown, ND. They also moved to Bemidji, MN where they owned a bowling alley for 5 years. They moved back to Cooperstown where they had built a home and settled for their remaining years, but also spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. Mildred died Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Cooperstown Care Center, where she had been a resident since 2010. Mildred was an active part of the community and enjoyed the meetings and events of the organziations she was a member of. She was a member of PEO, Eastern Star, and Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed baking, knitting, and travel. Her real joy was her family and friends, especially spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. Mildred is survived by a daughter, Sharon " Shad " (Gregg) Misialek, Castle Rock, WA; one son Harold "Skip" Kirkeby, San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Robyn (Brian) O’Gorman, Nicole (Rodney) Shaw, Beaumont, TX, Sean (Brandi) Kirkeby, San Antonio, TX, and Shannon Balzum, Colfax, IA; four great-grandchildren, Gabe Julien, Timmy Balzum, Keira Kirkeby, and Kingston Kirkeby; and a nephew, Vernon Anderson, Jamestown, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Vernon Kirkeby; her parents, Alfred and Alice; one brother, Ivan Erlandson; one sister, Vivian (Roy) Anderson; and two great-grandchildren Kali Kirkeby and Dazmon Kirkeby. Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday, November 6, 2013 In the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND. A Prayer Service will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mabel Cemetery, Sutton, ND at 3:30 pm.
