Marvin Eugene Hook May 2nd 1936 – March 31st 2012 Marvin Eugene Hook was born May 2nd 1936 in Valley City ND to Markus and Alma (Rasmusson) Hook. Marvin was raised in the Hannaford area where he grew up with his four brothers Richard, David, Michael and Gerald. Marvin graduated from Hannaford High School in 1955. After High School, Marvin worked for the railroad as a seasonal laborer, at Asher Anderson’s Minneapolis Moline Dealership in Hannaford, and then ventured off to California with his brother Richard and friends where he worked at General Motors. Upon returning to Hannaford, he helped in the construction of the new Hannaford Elementary School Addition and he worked for Ted Curtis’s Oliver Dealership in Hannaford, ND. Marvin joined the ND Army National Guard as a Motor Pool Mechanic and remained proud of his Military Service. Marvin started Hook’s Garage in Hannaford in 1959 with his father Markus Hook and continued in that business for 53 years. During that time, Marvin worked as a Certified Welder on the Missile Site Projects in the area. He also worked seasonally for 10 years in Alaska’s North Slope Region as a mechanic and welder for Western Geophysical Corporation during the Alaska Pipeline Construction and Oil Exploration period. Marvin was married to Sharon (Fliflet) Hook on February 6th 1959. For 53 years they lived in Hannaford and shared their life together by enjoying life, spending time with family, traveling to various annual events and raising their own family. Marvin & Sharon were visited regularly by their son’s families; Ronald & Julie (Grinager) Cooperstown, Donald & Sherrie (Rahlf) Wimbledon, Robert & Kim (Olson) Hannaford and Terry of Hannaford. Marvin enjoyed his 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Marvin was a member of the Hannaford Rural Fire Department, the American Legion Post #113 in Hannaford, the AM VETS & VFW, a past Hannaford City Council Member and various other affiliations throughout his years. Marvin spent his entire life in the service of others. He touched many lives and built lasting friendships through his mechanical work and hobbies. In his late years Marvin pursued his passion for Dirt Track Car Racing as spectator and rarely missed an event. Marvin enjoyed visiting with family and everyone else about his life, his family, sharing his mechanical knowledge and talking about his stories of travel and adventure. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Markus & Alma Hook, Father In-Law Julius Sr. and Mother In-Law Sylvia Fliflet and one Daughter Susan. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the in the Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Church. Interment will be in the Faith Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hannaford, ND.
