BETTY J. PETERSON Betty J. Peterson passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family at the Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND November 14, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. She was born October 7, 1932 to Jack and Violet (Thompson) Shorey in Lakota, ND. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart Lyle Peterson June 3, 1951 in Norman OK where he was stationed in the US Air Force. The couple moved to Elmendorf Air Base in Anchorage, AK, then to Selfridge Field in Mt. Clemens, MI. After Lyle was discharged they moved to Valley City, ND where Lyle attended Valley City State Teachers College. They moved to Pillsbury, ND then to Nome and finally to Hope, ND where Lyle was Superintendant of schools and Betty was the school secretary for 26 years. They both retired in 1992 and still make their home in Hope. Betty loved planting her spring flowers that made the whole backyard a beautiful array of colors. She loved the song birds coming in the spring and made sure the bird feeders and bird baths were ready for their arrival. She knew almost to the day when her favorite humming birds and orioles would greet her at the dining room window. Betty was a great cook making sure there was plenty of butter in almost everything. She was very busy during the Christmas holiday, decorating her home and making sure that each family member had their favorite homemade goodies at the family gathering. She loved shopping from the QVC shopping network for special things for her and her family. Her favorite place for entertainment was the Shooting Star Casino, waiting for the big bonus from her favorite slot machine. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by; her husband, Lyle, Hope, ND; son Tim (Wendy) Peterson, Velva, ND and two grandchildren; Terry (Ashley) Peterson, Velva, ND; Marijo Peterson (Chris Kemp), Fargo, ND; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters. She was the last of her siblings to go to God. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 am in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hope, ND. Visitation will be held one hour before services in the Church. Interment will be at the Lakota Cemetery, Lakota, ND, November 18, 2011 at 2:30 pm.
