NORDEEN GOODWIN SORLIEN Nordeen Goodwin Sorlien, 84, of Finley, ND, passed away August 30, 2011 in the Sanford Health Hospital in Mayville, ND. Nordeen was born February 22, 1927 at a farm by Montpelier, ND to Peter and Gina (Erickson) Sorlien. In the fall of 1929, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Hatton, ND. Nordeen grew up and attended school in District 54, Union Township: Grand Forks County. At the age of 15 years, Nordeen started working full time in the farm country. He entered the Navy during World War II and spent most of two years. After his discharge from the Navy, he again worked on farms. On July 16, 1948, he married Deloris Kathleen Nelson. Together they moved from Hatton to Finley in 1950. Nordeen worked for Gladren Olson farms until 1964. Nordeen and Deloris had three children: Diane, Terry and Jeffrey. March 1, 1964 Nordeen started working for the City of Finley as the superintendent of the street department. Nordeen worked for the City of Finley for 25 years, retiring in 1989. On September 24, 1971, Nordeen married Judith Engen Henrickson. Together Nordeen and Judy raised Tina and Ben Henrickson. Nordeen was active in the American Legion, having been a member for 65 years. He served as North Dakota State Department Commander for the 1979-1980 year. Nordeen was an active member in the Finley Lutheran Church, He served 12 years on the church board in the 1970 – 1980’s, with six of these years as President. Nordeen leaves behind his wife Judy, Special daughter: Tina Henrickson-Kamrud, Fargo, ND; daughter, Diane Rutherford, Vancouver, WA; Sons Terry (Bonnie) Sorlien and Jeffrey (Bonnie) Sorlien, both of Frazee, ND; Step daughters, Bonita (Carl) Hopkins and Gail Mick, both of Atlanta, GA; Step son Jay (Delores) Henrickson, Mayville, ND; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; Three sisters, Esther Bjerke, Ruth Berg, Vivian (Melvin) Strande all of Northwood, ND and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Finley Lutheran Church in Finley, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Finley Lutheran Church in Finley, ND and one hour before services in the Church. A Prayer Service will be held Thursday at 7:00 in the Church.
